Description

The name Halau Hula `O Nalikokauikawekiulani was presented to our teacher Casey Kono by Kumu Hula Kawaikapuokalani Hewett in 2006. Our given name represents a bud of the lehua flower placed in the highest of heavens. Casey was originally from Wailuku Maui, and taught hula in Los Angeles for over 10 years before his passing. He was well known for his innovative style, ability to share faith through hula, and selfless generosity. We continue this halau to share the many wonderful teachings we received from Casey. Although our creative focus is to perpetuate Casey’s choreography as well as creating hula auana in his style, our group also explores Hula Kahiko, Maori, Tahitian, and other styles of Polynesian dance. Through hula we strive to share Hawaiian Culture and charitable work with our community.
