Goshoki Hoonko

There will be a joint Goshoki Hoonko (Shinran Shonin’s Memorial Service) at Gardena Buddhist Church on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, starting at 9:30AM. Rev. Kodo Umezu, Bishop of the Buddhist Churches of America, will be the guest speaker.

As part of the service, there will also be three special ceremonies:

Kikyoshiki (Affirmation Ceremony)

Those who are interested in participating will receive their Homyo (Buddhist name). Please fill out this form and send to Gardena Buddhist Church by Dec. 22.

Seijin Shiki (Coming of Age Ceremony)

This is a traditional Japanese ceremony that recognizes individuals who will be 20 years of age (the age of adulthood in Japan) in the coming year. Please fill out this form and send to Gardena Buddhist Church by Dec. 22.

Certification of Ministerial Assistants

Both Richard Modiano and Amy Umezu, of the VHBT, will be officially certified as Ministerial Assistants.
