Seminar on Living with Mental Illness

| October 13, 2011

Oxnard Buddhist Temple invites you to join us for our upcoming Seminar on Existence of Continual Suffering: Living with Mental Illness in our eight-part series entitled Facing Life’s Challenges: Practical Advice and Buddhist Wisdom.

On Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 PM, representatives from National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Ventura County will present the In Our Own Voice Program. In Our Own Voice (IOOV) is a unique public education program developed by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in which two trained consumer speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery. The presentation will be based on the following five topics:

  • Dark Days
  • Acceptance
  • Treatment
  • Coping Strategies
  • Success/Hopes/Dreams

The seminar will conclude with a discussion of Buddhist perspectives led by Rev. Henry Toryo Adams, Resident Minister of the Oxnard Buddhist Temple.
